Laguna Beach
by ViTo • May 31, 2007 2 commentsWhen moving to Irvine, I found the fact that it was in the Orange County funny. And why is that? Because when talking to my friends nobody ever heard about either UCI or Irvine, but all of them knew about The O.C. I’m obviously referring to the TV show. The plot takes place in some fancy urbanization not far away from Newport Beach. It involves some rich teenagers that get into troubles and complain about their lifes; still, it is a fictional show, so any similarities to reality are purely coincidental.

However, I recently discovered another show close to Irvine: Laguna Beach. Laguna is also a small coast town which happens to be really pretty and it happens to allocate a very high-class community. Besides, it has a high number of surfers which makes it even cooler. This MTV show falls into the category of reality TV and its plot reveals the beauty of Laguna and again is focused on the real lives of some spoiled teenagers. It’s official name is “Laguna Beach. The Real Orange County” which is kind of ironic since my first thought after watching it was: Are these people for real!?
If the show does indeed reflect reality I find it very sad. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any problems with rich people, it’s just that these kids are really spoiled, lazy, and have no idea about what real life’s about. It’s lucky they have money cause otherwise they couldn’t survive in the real world. It’s like they all live in a bubble, the Laguna bubble. Of course, there’s always the option they became this way because of the money; in that cause I think find ourselves in front of an interesting dilemma: What would you rather be rich and stupid or just plain normal?
I encourage you to take a look at the show, but I warn you: be prepared to see very annoying people in dysfunctional relationships and of course non-stop drama about pointless issues. The following parody of the show might give you a general impression of what I’m talking about:
I find it hilarious, and believe it or not it’s not that far from the real thing…

TrackBack URIOMG! That was hilarious!! These people do exist, and yeah, I agree with you, they’re like that because of the money and also due to a (more than probably) lack of parent care (some parents think that education is a matter of, e.g., giving a credit card to a 15 year-old teenie). I think this is all caused by the fact that they were never taught the value of money, so they don’t give a damn about it (the “burn the carpet” reference in that vid is great!). Instead, if you get rich by your daily efforts, I bet you value that (you’ll see in a couple of years,
).
Well, in the end is like Cervantes said: “a picar código ensamblador metía yo a todas estas petardas”.
Btw, at 2:10 does the bitch yell “Jessica” or “Cesco”?
hey, sorry for not replying sooner… I’ve been really busy lately.
Cesco… hehe maybe you’re right
I agree with you, but I think you already knew that (we talked about this many times…) Education is the most important thing and people should learn the value of things regardless of their status, which sadly doesn’t happen.
But if you think about it, at some point it makes sense, cause in a similar way, you’re not gonna learn the value of food as a hungry kid in Africa does… do you know what I mean?
Then maybe you have to choose between not being that wealthy or not being that smart. I know what my choice would be.
