When moving to Irvine, I found the fact that it was in the Orange County funny. And why is that? Because when talking to my friends nobody ever heard about either UCI or Irvine, but all of them knew about The O.C. I’m obviously referring to the TV show. The plot takes place in some fancy urbanization not far away from Newport Beach. It involves some rich teenagers that get into troubles and complain about their lifes; still, it is a fictional show, so any similarities to reality are purely coincidental.

However, I recently discovered another show close to Irvine: Laguna Beach. Laguna is also a small coast town which happens to be really pretty and it happens to allocate a very high-class community. Besides, it has a high number of surfers which makes it even cooler. This MTV show falls into the category of reality TV and its plot reveals the beauty of Laguna and again is focused on the real lives of some spoiled teenagers. It’s official name is “Laguna Beach. The Real Orange County” which is kind of ironic since my first thought after watching it was: Are these people for real!?

If the show does indeed reflect reality I find it very sad. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any problems with rich people, it’s just that these kids are really spoiled, lazy, and have no idea about what real life’s about. It’s lucky they have money cause otherwise they couldn’t survive in the real world. It’s like they all live in a bubble, the Laguna bubble. Of course, there’s always the option they became this way because of the money; in that cause I think find ourselves in front of an interesting dilemma: What would you rather be rich and stupid or just plain normal?

I encourage you to take a look at the show, but I warn you: be prepared to see very annoying people in dysfunctional relationships and of course non-stop drama about pointless issues. The following parody of the show might give you a general impression of what I’m talking about:

Click here to view the embedded video.

I find it hilarious, and believe it or not it’s not that far from the real thing…

By living almost 2 years in Germany I have come across many differences between Germany and Spain (my home country). Needless to say almost all of them are in favour of Germany… Education, respect, tolerance, etc.

That is why I had to take a picture when I found this:

It is from a real parking in the middle of Stuttgart (Germany). I think those of you who don’t understand german won’t find it too difficult to figure out that Für Frauen means For Women. I guess if I were a woman that would annoy me, yet on the other hand when you’ve been looking for a place to park for more than an hour you tend to forget about sexism… Actually, it was quite funny cause this spot was wider than the regular ones (the men ones I suppose), but the female owner of the Twingo didn’t manage to park it properly. By the way, once the car is parked, how the hell do they check if the driver was a man or a woman!!?
I’ve looked for similar things accross Internet but it turns out there are none! All I could find are the typical jokes about women parking abilities. So we are looking at the first female park space of the world Is it me or they always get the better stuff?

EDIT: As some people pointed out these are for security reasons. You can read about it in the german wikipedia. The translation is:

In some underground parking structures there are special parking spaces for women; they are often in especially visible locations, usually near stairs and elevators or near to security officers, and are usually under especially good surveillance by video cameras.

So it turns out there’s nothing funny about them…
